Prerequisites
In order to properly participate in this study, there are several things to consider:
This experiment was designed to be administered in virtual reality (VR).
In a VR environment, many outside factors can be eliminated and thus limits extraneous variables.
Please follow all safety guidelines that pertain to your virtual reality device.
By participating in this experiment, you consent to the collection of limited, anonymous test result data that is stored securely.
This data will be reviewed and published publicly as part of a study.
If you do not consent, please exit this page now.
Hardware requirements:
VR capable computer
VR headset
Mouse
Keyboard
Software requirements:
Firefox
SteamVR
Instructions
Please read the following carefully before entering the test environment:
Seat yourself in a position where you can access your keyboard and mouse
Open the experiment page in Firefox here
When prompted, click "Allow Virtual Reality Access" in the browser window and wait for SteamVR to launch
Click the VR icon in the bottom right corner of the window
Put on your VR headset comfortably and you will see the test page
Once you are inside the test environment:
Your job is to determine in which direction a dot of light, called the target, seems to be moving
Keep your eye on the target at all times
It will be surrounded by other objects, but maintain fixation at all times
You will determine the target's direction by continuously adjusting its location to keep it apparently straight ahead. That is, you will nullify its apparent movement
Use the left and right arrow keys to adjust the dot's position
So, if it seems to drift off to the left, a certain distance, an inch, e.g. you will move it to the right to compensate for that drift
You will nullify its drift to keep it apparently straight ahead
When you are satisfied with the dot's position, press the "enter" key
Your results will appear on screen and will be automatically recorded
Once you have completed the test:
Remove your VR headset
You may close out the "Experiment Results" page and the test page
If you wish, you may retry the experiment by opening it from the link above
Thank you for participating in our study.
